Perspectives on Panama’s economy
Okay, so aliens aren’t landing. After all, looks can be deceiving.
In a recent post about my trip to Panama City, I talked about how shocking it was to see a city literally submerged in construction. In particular at a time when one would think that construction would be ceasing, it appeared as though Panama was moving full force ahead. (Read previous post.) Today’s Central American publication, Tico Times, has delved into this phenomenon and revealed a slightly different story.

While the Cinta Costera project aimed at transforming the city’s waterfront continues, many of the high-rise projects may lose steam if not come to a “screeching halt” as the above article states — which happens to showcase the very photo I took from the top of the Intercontinental Miramar Hotel! On the bright side, Panama seems to be proactive in crafting incentives to attract foreign investors which may ameliorate the crisis a bit in this part of the world. I hope some of those incentives aren’t anything like the ones the Zurich-based UBS have been offering!
